About PkgPulse
Make informed decisions when choosing JavaScript & TypeScript packages. Compare health scores, bundle sizes, download trends, and more — all in one place.
What is PkgPulse?
PkgPulse is a free, open-source tool that helps developers evaluate npm packages before adding them to a project. Instead of manually checking GitHub stars, download counts, last-publish dates, and bundle sizes across multiple sites, PkgPulse aggregates everything into a single comparison view with a composite health score.
Whether you're choosing between React state management libraries, testing frameworks, or CSS-in-JS solutions, PkgPulse gives you the data to decide confidently.
Health Score Methodology
Every package on PkgPulse receives a health score from 0-100. The score is a weighted composite of five factors:
Maintenance (30%)
How recently the package was updated, open issue/PR ratios, and overall project activity.
Popularity (20%)
Weekly npm downloads and GitHub stars on a logarithmic scale.
Quality (25%)
TypeScript support, test coverage signals, and code quality indicators.
Security (15%)
Known vulnerabilities from npm audit and dependency health.
Stability (10%)
Breaking change frequency across major version releases.
Open Source
PkgPulse is open source and available on GitHub. Contributions, feature requests, and bug reports are welcome.
